⚠️ Important Update for the Flathead Snowmobiling Community
The Flathead Snowmobile Association currently helps coordinate grooming and maintenance across more than 230 miles of snowmobile trails in the Flathead Valley. Those trails exist today because volunteers from our community have stepped up over the years to organize, lead, and support the work that keeps them running.
Right now, the club is facing a leadership gap.
In order for the Flathead Snowmobile Association to legally operate and remain in compliance, we must fill the following officer positions:
These officer and board positions are the bare minimum required for the organization to exist, but they are not enough by themselves to keep the club running smoothly.
If we cannot fill these leadership roles, the Flathead Snowmobile Association will not be able to continue operating. That would mean:
Just as important — the four officers and board members cannot and should not carry the entire workload alone.
If you’ve appreciated the increased communication, trail work, and community efforts over the past year, we will also need additional volunteers to keep that momentum going. Running a strong club takes many people contributing in different ways.
We need help with things like:
The time commitment varies depending on your level of involvement and what you want to help accomplish. Some people choose to focus on keeping the organization stable, while others may want to help lead improvements and new ideas. Both are valuable, and no one is expected to do this alone.
If you’re interested in learning more about what these roles involve, the current President and Vice President would be happy to talk with you and share their experience from the past year.
Anyone who is a member of the Flathead Snowmobile Association is eligible to run. There are no special qualifications required.
The trail system we enjoy today exists because people in this community stepped up to lead and support it. Now we need the next group of volunteers willing to help carry that work forward.
If you care about the future of snowmobiling in the Flathead, please consider stepping forward before March 20th.

The Flathead Snowmobile Association exists to maintain safe, reliable winter trail access and foster a connected, responsible riding community across Northwest Montana. We envision a future where every rider—new or experienced—can explore the backcountry with confidence, supported by strong partnerships, volunteer stewardship, and year-round safety education. Guided by our core values of safety, community, stewardship, volunteerism, and collaboration, we bring people together to protect the trails we love and ensure access for generations to come.
Founded in 1971 by a small group of local riders, the Flathead Snowmobile Association began as a grassroots effort to create safe, reliable winter access in the Flathead Valley. |
We maintain safe and accessible snowmobile trails, foster responsible winter recreation, and build a supportive community of riders and partners across the Flathead. |
The Flathead Snowmobile Association reinvests community support directly into projects that strengthen safety, access, and connection across Northwest Montana. Each winter, we partner with local organizations and volunteers to enhance the riding experience and support those who depend on safe backcountry access.
